Canada seeks to protect the young immigrants

The Canadian authorities just announced that the application for minors who do not have a legal guardian who is already a citizen and who wish to become citizens independently, shall be processed more quickly so as to encourage more youngsters to move to the country at an age that they can be groomed and adapt more quickly to the country and in time become contributing members of Canadian society.

The government has done this by reducing the fees for citizenship to one fifth of what it originally was for those children and youngsters who are applying on their own for citizenship. This shall make it easier for them to be able to receive their new status.

This change has come soon after the changes to the Citizenship Act were implemented that removed the prior condition that only those of 18 years of age and above could submit an application for citizenship on their own, else they had to be submitted by the legal guardian or parent who already had permanent residency status.

This has been done to ensure that a lot of children of immigrants who are already under the state’s care or in the welfare scheme for children will soon receive their citizenship and then be eligible for the benefits under the same as well as be able to contribute back to their new country once they are older.

The authorities have already started the procedure to refund back difference in the amounts that were already collected before this change was announced, to those who are eligible for the refund. This has probably come as a relief to a lot of families unsure about the future of their children.

This is a move greatly welcomed and applauded by the community as it brings peace to mind to a a large section of society.
