Looking to double immigration numbers in Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador are in the east of Canada. Besides having the names of popular breeds of dogs, they are also known for the beauty of the environment and for being rich in natural resources. The Canadian Federal Government is keen to optimise what they can derive from the areas and for that reason are considering increasing the numbers of immigrant applications and applicants, and possibly even doubling it, i.e. increasing it by 100%.
This is because the government feels the need for the influx of youngsters and to boost the local economy. One of the present Canadian Federal Ministers is pushing aggressively for the boosting of immigration. Seamus O’Regan has implied that he has approval from the Immigration Minister himself to be able to increase the immigration target to 4000 by 2022, that number is more than double the present number of 1700.
He has stated that these numbers form only the lower level numbers and that probably more will be needed to reverse the effects of the areas presently decreasing tax base as the population there is aging rapidly and the birth rate is low. He has also stated that it is his intention to ensure that to support the new changes, he is also focusing on making the local economy stronger and better, which implies more jobs, greater affluence for everyone.
By current studies and estimates by the government, by 2022, the province will have seen a drop of 10% in the working population which translated into almost 35,000 less skilled workers in the labour market and hence the need for young, strong people. There is scope and room for newcomers and the community would welcome them. There are also plans to ensure the labour classes and leaders work with business advisors and the government to be able to come up with a plethora of ways in which they can increase growth to bring to pass these plans at the earliest.
